IAC ELECTIONS – NOVEMBER 2011

Hello all,

The time is upon us for IAC Executive Committee
elections. In keeping with the AA spirit of rotation and the election rotation in
most areas of AA service, some of our two-year terms will come to an end in
December.

In the past all Executive Committee positions were
elected every two years. As the Committee met throughout this last year they
realized that this complete rotation stood little chance of maintaining
continuity should all the Executive Committee members change. Therefore the
bylaws were revised to stagger the election cycle so that half of the Committee
is elected each year.

Gay/Lesbian Recovery Stories

The AA Grapevine features specific topics in its monthly meeting in print. We are excited and grateful that the February 2011 issue features stories by lesbians and gay men. It is an opportunity to share our experience, strength and hope with fellow alcoholics. The idea came from a brief moment on the streets of Toronto in 2005 at the International Convention. A gentleman asked one of us about the IAC button. The member told him about IAC and the community of sober gay men and women in AA. The gentleman was touched by the moment. He sponsored a gay man in a small community and hoped to find gay sober men to help this newcomer. With gratitude, he said “I didn’t know where to find you”. A curious gentleman saw a button which carried the message to a sponsor for a sponsee. That’s how it works.

With the 2010 convention in San Antonio, the opportunity was there. The AA Grapevine welcomed the idea of a feature and a call for stories went out. The Grapevine staff tells us that it received many stories from lesbians and gay men. The staff made the selection of articles and we are eager to read your stories. A special thanks to Hebert G for his gracious work to make this happen. We offer a special thank you to the Grapevine and to everyone who submitted an article to the Grapevine.
